Calendar of Events at the Hawk Conservancy Trust - 2009

FEBRUARY

14th February – 2009 season opening times begin: 10.00am-5.30pm Monday to Sunday

Mid-February to April - Owls by Moonlight. Gives guests the opportunity to see our owls really awake and at their best. Friday and Saturday evenings at 7.00pm. Numbers are strictly limited, so book early, and come along wrapped up warm and with a torch and step out in the dark with the owls.

APRIL

Saturday 11th – Monday 13th April – Rave about Raptors Weekend
Join us to learn more about raptors, their habits and habitats! Meet our ‘Easter Eagle’. Complete the Raptor Trail and win a prize!

Sunday 12th April – Hawk Conservancy Trust Photographic Competition begins. Featuring 6 categories, this competition gives photographers, both amateur and professional, the chance to show off their talents. Closing date for the competition is 31st December 2009. Saturday 2nd – Monday 4th May – Conservation Weekend
Discover facts about some of the conservation projects undertaken by the Trust, in the UK and overseas.

Friday 15th May - ‘Postcards from Paradise’ with Chris Packham – 7.00pm in the Griffon Rooms.
A selection of images and stories from Chris's travels around the world.
Tickets: £15.00 to include refreshments.

Saturday 23rd – Monday 25th May – Countryside Weekend
Ever wanted to have a go at traditional country crafts? We have demonstrations of traditional country skills for you to see and even participate in.

31st July "Never mind the buzzards" – presented by Chris Packham – 7.00pm in the Griffon Rooms.
All you ever wanted to know about weird and wonderful creatures that can be found in nature.

AUGUST

Saturday 29th – Monday 31st August – Wildlife Art Exhibition – 10.00am-5.00pm.
This exhibition features sculptures, drawings, paintings and photographs of wildlife from the United Kingdom and overseas, with particular emphasis on birds of prey.

SEPTEMBER

Saturday 5th September - International Vulture Awareness Day 2009 – 10.00am-5.00pm.
Vultures are an ecologically vital group of birds that face a range of threats in many areas that they occur. Populations of many species are under pressure and some species are facing extinction. Visit the Trust and discover why it is necessary to conserve vultures and how the Hawk Conservancy Trust is helping to save the species.

13th September "Back Garden nature reserve" – presented by Chris Packham – 7.00pm in the Griffon Rooms. How you can attract wildlife to your home and make your own back garden nature reserve.
Tickets: £15.00 to include refreshments.

Mark Anderson presentation ‘Flamingos & Vultures’, introduced by Chris Packham.

Thursday 24th September – Drawing Birds of Prey Workshop with Paul Betchley – 10.00am-5.00pm in the Griffon Rooms.
This is an art class that focuses on drawing birds of prey and will give artists, both new and established, the opportunity to get close to a bird of prey and develop a range of techniques to produce their own work.
Tickets: £80.00 per person (includes lunch and all refreshments). Artists are advised to bring their own art materials.
