Caption competition 2010

Each month we shall display on this page a single photograph for which we invite you to give us an apt, witty or humorous caption.

The caption most enjoyed by our judge of the month will go forward to the end of the year, when a final judging will select the overall winner. There will be a prize for the best caption, and for the photograph to which the caption was applied.

You may submit, each month, one suggested caption for the current month's photograph. Submission of caption suggestions is free of charge. If you have already entered the main 2010 Photographic competition, you will also be able to submit, each month, one photograph for selection of the next month's image.

The closing date for the submission of photographs will be 30th November 2010, and for the submission of captions, will be 31st December 2010.

Competition Rules

  1. One caption may be submitted by each entrant each calendar month from the commencement of the competition until its closing date.
  2. Each caption should be contained in the body of an email addressed to webmaster Keith, bearing the subject "Caption Competition 2010". The caption will be applied to the photograph current at the time of receipt of the email.
  3. In the event that the photograph is not changed on the first day of the month, do not send another caption for the same one. Wait for the new image to appear.
  4. If a second or subsequent caption is received from an entrant for a photograph, the one first received will remain in play and any subsequest captions for that photograph will be ignored.
  5. In order to submit photographs for the competition the entrant must pay a one-off entry fee of £5.00. The fee may be paid by cash, cheque (made payable to the Hawk Conservancy Trust), credit card/debit card or PayPal. Please pay either in person at the Trust shop, by telephone to the Trust office on 01264 773850, or on line. A single £5.00 fee paid for entry into the main photographic competition will also cover this competition. Submission of caption suggestions is free of charge.
  6. Each entry must contain your name, address, telephone number and email address.
  7. There will be no cash alternative to the announced prizes; the judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into by the judges.
  8. Copyright. You must be the sole author and owner of the copyright for all materials entered. By entering the competition, you give the Hawk Conservancy Trust (HCT) a non-exclusive licence to reproduce the captions for any purpose in connection with the competition including, but not limited to, the following purposes: judging the competition, display of winning entries held at the HCT, inclusion within HCT marketing and promotional material and for use in HCT merchandise. The HCT reserves the right to display, reproduce and publish in any media any entry, without payment, for the sole purpose of the HCT and its promotion and publicity.
  9. The competition is not open to members of the Hawk Conservancy Trust staff and their immediate family.
