During the past month we have seen fourteen wild birds, which is quite a low number. The majority of these were owls. Most of them had very serious injuries or were suffering from serious conditions. This has resulted in only two of the fourteen being released back to the wild. 

They were :-

• Three Barn Owls. One came in suffering from a hip and spinal injury resulting from a motor vehicle accident.  It was euthanased by our vet.  The other two were very thin and bedraggled when they arrived in need of some good meals and warm accommodation for a few days. They were both released.
• Two Kestrels came in for treatment.  One had a badly fractured wing and had to be euthanased. The other was a juvenile that was suffering from being parasitized by ticks and had an injury to its right eye. It did not survive to recover.
• Six Tawny Owls made their way to the hospital. Two were suffering from Frounce, a mouth and throat infection that is very contagious between birds. Two had been involved in motor vehicle accidents and were very badly injured. Of the other two, one was blind in one eye and the other had a fractured right wing. Unfortunately all the six birds had to be euthanased.
• We saw one Sparrow Hawk which was very thin and was dead on arrival.
• One Buzzard with an abscess/lump in its throat.  It was euthanased by our vet.
• One Red Kite was admitted, in very low body condition. It was seen by our vet but no other injuries were found. The bird is now in one of our outside aviaries and is recovering well.
