The Trust makes a great venue for a college or university day visit. Click here for full details of discounted rates for groups and facilities we provide. However for colleges/universities who would like a more in depth training session for their students we can provide the following course.

Introduction to the care of Raptors

(Suitable for colleges/universities and those in higher education)


The course runs from 10.00am to 5.00pm and starts with a welcome talk on the history, work, aims and objectives of the Trust.

BCOT trainingWe have tried to make this day both informative and stimulating, with an emphasis on practical involvement with Raptors.

You can tailor make your day by choosing from the following options;

Please select 5 of the modules listed below, these sessions last for approximately 1 hour each and will give a basic framework for your day with us.

1. Artificial incubation (the hatching and rearing of young birds of prey in the Trust hospital)
2. Re-habilation. (Assessing an injured bird of prey, critical care and post-release studies, practical lure swinging)
3. Raptor identification. (Taxonomy and field identification of indigenous Raptors)
4. Husbandry and Nutrition (health, care, welfare and dietary requirements)
5. Research (includes practical use of telemetry and tracking)
6. Practical handling (with Hawks)
7. Practical handling (Hawks and Owls, this is the equivalent of 2 sessions)
8. Practical handling (Hawks, Owls and other Raptors, this is the equivalent of 3 sessions)
9. Legislation (Birds of prey, their habitat and the law)
10. The Hawk Conservancy Trust and how it funds its work as a charitable zoological organisation. (Finance, retail, membership, fund raising and day courses)
11. Guided Tour. This will include an accompanied walk around the grounds to view some of our main conservation programmes.

RSPCA trainingIncluded in your day is a lunch break (pack lunches can be pre-ordered, if required) and the opportunity to watch the “Valley of the Eagles” display

The cost of this course is:
£26 per student, (For first 15 students per course)
£21 per student (for any additional students)
Courses can be arranged for smaller groups of students but a minimum charge of £390 will apply
