The site, called Reg’s Meadow, is a memorial to the founder of The Hawk Conservancy, Reg Smith. Reg was passionate about all forms of wildlife, but was particularly fond of the downlands and their associated wildlife. The purchase of the land to begin the project was one of Reg’s last conservation projects before he passed away in 1995.
Since that time, Reg’s Meadow has developed spectacularly. It is part of the Hampshire Biodiversity Action Plan and is a significant site, particularly for important BAP species such as bumblebees.
Here is a summary of our aims and project ambitions in Reg’s Meadow and another project in the Hawk Conservancy grounds. Follow the link at the end for additional background information and recent developments.
