Junior Falconers' Experience

(ages 12-15)

This 3 hour session is designed to give children an insight into the work of a falconer at the Hawk Conservancy Trust.

Guest learning how to use telemtry to track birds

Accompanied by one of the Trust's falconers (and an assistant) you will start with looking after a bird section at the park, you will learn the day to day maintenance needed to care for Birds of Prey. This may include aviary or water bowl cleaning, and the feeding and weighing of birds.

We then look at the training of young birds, and how they progress, and you will be able to assist in a bird's training programme.

Try your hand at swinging a falcon lure, and using a radio transmitter to track birds. There will also be the chance to fly a Bird of Prey in our flying arena, and practise your skills as a commentator in front of an audience of your fellow experience guests.

Over a break for tea and coffee there will be the opportunity to meet one of the Trust's Barn Owls at close quarters, and the chance to fly this beautiful creature to the fist. Finally there will be the opportunity to improve your bird identification skills by sight and sound, and have a go at our fun quiz.

This is not an intensive course, but a fun and educational day for children to learn about Birds of Prey and the work that is carried out by the Trust.

These sessions are limited to a maximum of 4 children, aged 12-15 years and are held at weekends and specific dates during the school holidays.

The Junior Falconers' experience is currently priced at £55.00 per person.These experience sessions can be booked for a particular day, or can be given as a Gift Voucher, making an ideal Christmas or birthday gift. Purchase vouchers from our online Ticket Shop. All vouchers are valid for 10 months from date of purchase, allowing guests to choose their day with us.
