Meadow Muses - Index
Monica Johnson and Brigid Campbell look
at the ever-changing flora in our beautiful wildflower meadow which
is named in memory of Reg Smith, founder of the Hawk Conservancy Trust. |
| In June 2005, Monica gives us some background and sets the scene for the coming months. | July 2005 - Reg's Meadow in June has a very lush, green appearance. The meadow grasses have grown tall and are in full bloom, with many different colours and forms. | ||
| August 2005 and the meadow in July was yellow again - this time with Lady's Bedstraw, and with lots of pink and purple splashes. | September 2005 - the meadow in August, shows lots of whites and purples, and insects abound. | ||
| October 2005 - Monica and Brigid found that there is still plenty of life and colour left in Reg's Meadow in September. | November 2005 - Monica and Brigid tell us of the final burst of colour as autumn arrives in Reg's Meadow in October. | ||
| December 2005 - and in November, the meadow prepares for winter. | January 2006 - the meadow is December is dormant - but there's still plenty to look at. | ||

- Monica and Brigid show us how spring has finally arrived in Reg's Meadow |
||
| June 2006 - May has brought a sudden rush of green growth as the meadow plants push up their foliage in a race to out-perform each other and take control of the available space. | July 2006 - Golden Glory (and some little things) | ||
| August 2006 - More Funny Flowers - all about grasses | September 2006 - the first of a series on insects and other invertebrates, looking at some of the butterflies and moths which are found in our meadow and which have been very busy during July and August. | ||

| February 2008 - we are let into the secrets of that most fascinating of country skills that is hedge laying. | March 2008 - we look at things that are not there … | ||
| April 2008 - how different weather patterns affect the look of some of the key plants in the meadow | May 2008 - nothing much had changed since last month, so what has appeared? | ||
| June 2008 - being a mix of soil imported from outside and soil from the car park, the mound gives a mix of plants not found elsewhere in the meadow. | July 2008 - we look at the many different Maple trees around the Trust grounds. | ||
