4th June
Guest speaker Karen Waters demonstrating the various methods used to hand-rear Bustards
First member’s night of the 2005 was greeted by large numbers and sunny weather. Whilst members enjoyed the free wine / soft drinks and a meal from the BBQ, there was also the opportunity to take part in the evening’s competitions.

Match the owner to their pet (featuring most of the Trust staff) and guess the weight of the baby Milky Eagle Owl “Tolkien”. There were also displays by the 100 club and the Great Bustard Project from our guest speaker. Both young birds and a few old favourites were flown during the evening with the highlights being: the first practise for our Fly By Night evening and our peregrine being flown to the sounds of the 633 squadron, and our French work experience student flying and commentating a bird for the first time. Our guest speaker was Karen Waters who gave a fascinating talk on the rearing and releasing of the Great Bustard on Salisbury Plain (with the help of some able assistants)
