A training day for the RSPCA was held at the Trust.

Registar Jane Robertson held a training session for all staff on the Isis bird record system, on which all details of stock held at the Trust are kept.

The Trust featured in an article in the Independent newspaper and in several local papers around the country, in a story about the recent research trip to South Africa. The local newspapers for all the volunteers who attended the research week were sent an article which had a slant on the volunteer that lived in that area.
BCOT held a training day for their students at the Trust.
Andy, Sam and Richard travelled to an estate in Norfolk to put up some nestboxes for one of the Trust's trustees.

The first private Christmas meal took place in the corporate room and was a great success.

John Ingham, environmental correspondent for the Daily Express, visited the Trust for the day to learn about the Trust and its conservation work with raptors. This was followed by a wonderful article about his visit in his column the following week.
The Trust welcomed a new member of staff, Gale Gould; Gale has been appointed Sales and Marketing Manager at the Trust.

Tree surgeon Sandy spent a day at the Trust with his handy tool for grinding stumps, and removed most of the stumps that remained around the grounds from earlier tree cutting.

Finance & Administration Manager Anya Rodgers and Trustee Marion Paviour attended a meeting at the Trust with the head of the Charity Tax department at the Inland Revenue.

Table set up for the Great Bustard Christmas meal in the Griffon rooms
A Christmas meal for 26 people was held in the Griffon rooms by the Great Bustard Trust. Guests had the opportunity to fly an owl whilst enjoying mulled wine and mince pies.

Staff and volunteers let their hair down at the Trust's Christmas party held in the Griffon Rooms. Party games, karaoke and a disco made for a fun evening, whilst the coffee shop provided a buffet for all to enjoy.

CEO Ashley Smith and Sales and Marketing Manager Gale Gould attended a meeting at the Andover Lights theatre in connection with an exciting fundraising event for the Trust that will take place in September 2009. More details to follow soon!!

Representatives of local Andover businesses held a Breakfast club meeting in the Griffon Rooms.
Gemma and Gary Benton welcomed their son into the world. Alfie arrived at a whopping 8lb 12ozs, which totally threw the Trust staff sweepstake! Mum and baby are both doing well.

Amport Parish Council held its December Parish Council meeting in the Griffon rooms. During an interval, mince pies and mulled wine were served in the upstairs Eyrie room.

Chief Scientific Officer Campbell Murn visited Abbotts Ann Nursery School Christmas Party with an owl, and Falconer Jimmy Robinson talked about the work of the Trust at the Army Training Centre in Winchester.

Most of the staff were on leave, so the daily feed and care of the birds was left in the hands of Ashley, Tracey and Campbell. The traditional Christmas Day count of the herons took place from the hides; this year 14 birds visited the Trust.
Throughout the winter maintenance work has continued at the Trust. A new shelter is being built adjacent to the hospital to allow for storage, in one central location, of all the wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Work continued on building the steps to the left hand side of the amphitheatre in Reg's meadow, to allow easier access to the seats whilst the display is underway. General work carried on around the grounds, with aviaries being updated, walls being painted and wood stained.
