A Day with Birds of Prey

Activity daysBirds of Prey hold a fascination for many people, with most having the desire to experience the thrill of being in their company.

At the Trust our experience sessions are designed to allow guests to get close to and learn more about Birds of Prey, and the work carried out by the Trust with raptors both in the UK and overseas.

Your day will begin at 10am (9:30am during the winter period Nov-Feb) when you will be met at the entrance to the Trust by your two hosts for the day. These sessions are limited to a maximum of 4 guests per day, to ensure a more intimate and personal experience for our guests. After a brief introduction to your fellow guests and a run through the course itinerary, your day’s activities will begin.

The morning session will feature an introduction to Birds of Prey, covering all aspects of both their lifestyles in the wild and their care at the Trust. Training Birds of Prey will also be covered and you will have the opportunity to work with your hosts with some young birds at the beginning of their training. Throughout the day there will also be the chance to handle and work with various other species of Birds of Prey including eagles, kites, vultures and owls.

You will then be introduced to the team of Harris Hawks, the main species that will be used on the day, with each guest having their own individual bird.

The highlight of the day for many guests is when they have the opportunity to fly their own Harris Hawk, and experience what it is like to have a Bird of Prey land on your fist.

A hearty lunch is provided which can be taken on the balcony of our corporate room, allowing guests to get a birds eye view of our 12 o'clock demonstration.

The opportunity to watch our spectacular 2pm Valley of the Eagles display is also included in your day, allowing you to marvel at the spectacle of Eagles, Kites and Vultures filling the sky.

Your Day with Birds of Prey ends at 5pm (4:30pm during the winter period) with a presentation of a certificate to show your attendance of the day.

Activity daysThis is not an intensive course to teach guests how to practise falconry or keep birds, but a relaxed day, set at the pace of the guests on that day, to learn about and handle Birds of Prey, and to have an intimate insight into the work of the Hawk Conservancy Trust.

Only guests aged 16 years and older are able to attend our Day with Birds of Prey sessions. (For younger guest please refer to children’s experience sessions on main web page)

The Day with Birds of Prey is currently priced at £125 per person.

Gift vouchers are available for these days, as for all of our special days, and can also be purchased from our online Ticket Shop.
