Sponsorship/Friends Scheme

Oriental White-backed Vulture
Oriental White-backed Vulture

For many years the mission of The Hawk Conservancy has been the conservation of Birds of Prey both in the UK and internationally. As a charitable Trust we run conservation projects, participate in captive breeding programmes for endangered species, care for birds confiscated by Customs and Excise, conduct research projects, rehabilitate injured birds, educate the public on raptors (especially schoolchildren) and provide specialist training courses for outside organisations.

Your Sponsorship and Friends subscription goes directly towards the day-to-day costs of care of your chosen bird, including feeding, maintenance and veterinary costs, thereby releasing valuable resources to fund our above projects.

Becoming a Sponsor or Friend not only helps the work of the Trust, but also provides an unusual gift for both adults and children for any occasion. They can be purchased by an individual, family, group or company and are all valid for one year from date of purchase.

Don't forget, if you are a UK taxpayer and agree to Gift Aid your subscription fees, the Hawk Conservancy Trust can reclaim the tax back from the Inland Revenue, currently 28p in every £1.

What do you get as a Sponsor or Friend?

Sponsorship

Unlike many collections, the Trust operates a 'one sponsor per bird' scheme, which is renewable annually. The current sponsor is given the first option on renewing their sponsorship, before the bird is placed back on the sponsorship list. You will receive a mounted photograph, a bird biography, a complimantary ticket for 2 adults to visit the Trust and a year's subscription to our member's newsletter, Hawktalk. An engraved plaque will be placed on the aviary housing your bird to show your support of the scheme. Sponsorship fees range from £30 to £255. The list of birds available for sponsorship varies from month to month, so please check the current sponsorship list for availability. Click here for full details of birds available for sponsorship.

Young Tawny Owl Sponsor Scheme

An extension to our sponsorship scheme allows you to sponsor young birds that are going to be released back to the wild as part of our Tawny Owl Research programme. The sponsorship will be for one year only and not renewable, and goes towards the cost of caring for the young birds whilst they are at the Park and their food bills. Your sponsorship fee will also go towards the cost of a mobile release aviary, monitoring equipment and the funding of a research student to work on the project.

The cost for the year is £100. The sponsor will receive a photograph of the baby bird and a certificate to say they helped the release scheme. A copy of this certificate will go on show for a year in the hospital viewing hall. Sponsors will also receive a report at the end of the project detailing the results. Please note that the numbers of birds available for sponsorship are dependant on how many young birds the Trust has to be rehabilitated back to the wild in each year. This sponsorship is only available in the Spring/early summer when young Tawny Owls are being brought into the Trust.

Friends

Our sponsorship scheme has proved so successful that we often do not have enough birds or animals available for people that are interested, with every bird of prey and most other stock sponsored. We have waiting lists for birds and have had people putting their names forward for eggs when they hatch. Obviously, this causes a lot of disappointment to people who wish to support both the birds and the work we do here.

With this in mind, we have introduced a “Friends” scheme. Visitors can become a Friend of any bird or animal on the park, and there is no limit to the number of Friends a bird/animal can have. Friends receive a photo/certificate, bird biography, a copy of Hawktalk and their name is displayed at the Trust to show your support of the scheme. Cost is £35 per bird or animal and your friends scheme membership is renewable yearly.

If you are interested in becoming a friend to one of our birds, please print and complete the application form below, and post, with your payment, to Tracey Smith, The Hawk Conservancy Trust, Andover SP11 8DY. Alternatively you can fax it to the office on 01264 773772, and click here to pay through our online shop.

If you are a UK taxpayer and sign the request for Gift Aid at the base of the form, the Inland Revenue will refund to us the tax you have paid (standard rate) in relation to the amount of the donation.
